Pangasinan—the place where salt is made. “Pang” means for, “asin” means salt, and “an” means location.

Salt is a preservative. It is a condiment that slows decay. It is very important to man. It also adds taste/flavor to food. Salt also balances various substances in our body. During the ancient times, salt was a means of paying. Soldiers were paid salt for their service. Therefore salt is very valuable. As pangasinenses, we should be the salt of the earth—people of great kindness, reliability & honesty. 

We were called not only to be the salt in our province and country but to be the salt of the earth. We were meant to slow down decay, to prevent fall & deterioration.

“How do you manage living far from the city?” 

Waking up to birds chirping, green fields & fresh air is a good way to start the morning rather than vehicles honking, tall buildings & polluted air. This is why I enjoy living in the province, away from the busy, noisy & polluted city.

Province living is stereotyped as boring. I’ve read blogs & even facebook posts complaining that shopping is hard in the province because they couldn’t find what they need. Some, complain about network signal & internet speed. What I love about the province is though shopping is hard and network signal & internet speed is poor, it is more peaceful and relaxing. Another reason is, people in the neighborhood are very close with each other. I even love how some people in the province are still traditional & conservative. Lastly, I love how the province still embrace the Filipino culture & locality.

Others may define province life as boring but I will always continue to find it as comfortable & cozy. I’d rather hear birds chirping than vehicles honking. I’d rather breathe in fresh air than polluted air. I’d rather enjoy the view of green fields & trees than tall buildings and because of these, I can manage waking up & living in the province.

Home—one word, four letters. Short yet, has a lot of significance. For some, home can be a place where they live in or it can be a place where their family stays together. What is home? Does it just simply signify a household or a residence?

Home, for me, is more than just a house to sleep in. Home is where I feel most comfortable at. Home is where I can be myself without worrying about others seeing. Home is where I feel most safe, secured, loved, accepted and cared about.

True friendship

What is the true meaning of friendship? According to the dictionary, friendship is a relationship between friends. Friendship, for me, isn’t just about the relationship. It’s about the state of having mutual support and trust. 

Frequently, we label people as our “friends” because we hang out with them or we see them three to five times a week. Friends aren’t like that. Friends are the ones who will be there for you no matter what. Friends are the ones whom you only see three-four times a month yet everytime you meet it’s like nothing has changed. 

Friends are the ones you are so comfortable with. They are the ones you can tell your embarassing stories to, without the feeling of being judged. They are the ones who comes up to your mind when you need someone to talk to or even share your stories to and even though sometimes our stories become worthless and boring they still listen because they know you would also listen to theirs. 


Friends bring out the best in you. They also want what is good for you and what they know would benefit you. Friends aren’t only friends but they are family. That’s how important they are, to me. Friends are people you can count on and lean on. They are the people who will be there for you through thick and thin, through good times and bad times.

“What is love?” Such a cliché question.

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.”‭‭ (1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:4-6‬)


What is love? Cliché, I know. But what is it really? Love can sometimes be defined based on what it is, and sometimes can be defined based on what it is not. Sometimes we define love based on what we feel but love has no definite meaning.

What is love? If you ask our generation, some may say love is when a person buys you cute gifts, sends you sweet messages or even someone who gives you butterflies. Isn’t love more than that? Isn’t love more than cute gifts, more than those sweet messages, more than those butterflies?

Some, associate love with romantic relationships but love isn’t just being in a relationship. We don’t need to be in a relationship to experience love. Love, sometimes can be unseen. It can come anytime whether we know it or not. We cannot sometimes see it because it is hidden in words like “Have you eaten?”, “It reminded me of you.”or even “Be careful.”

Bottom line is, love is more than the “I love you”s and it is more than the dates. Love comes even when we don’t see it. Love isn’t and shouldn’t be temporary, superficial, disposable or conditional. Love is much valuable than that.
